How does it work?

Pre-check: Enquire with the relevant institution if you really need a sworn translation and how many copies are needed.
Providing documents: If you need a sworn translation, please deliver the original or a certified copy.
Translation: The document is immediately assigned to the appropriate court interpreter, who translates it and binds the original or a certified copy to the translation.
Electronic delivery: We can send you a scanned version of the sworn translation by email for informational purposes, which you can use in proceedings where such a version is allowed.
Delivery in person: Please note that only physical copies of sworn translations are legally binding and they can be delivered to you by post, courier or you can collect them in person.

FAQs

Where can I get a certified copy of the original?

You can have a copy of the original certified at the nearest administrative office or by a notary.

What is the cost of a sworn translation?

The price for one standard page of sworn translation starts at €25, depending on the language, volume and number of copies. An additional copy costs 20% of the original translation.

What is a standard page?

A standard page consists of 1500 characters, without spaces, in the target language. If you have the electronic version, you can use the “Word Count” function in Word to calculate the approximate number of pages. If you only have a hard copy, we will scan and analyse it in our translation system and inform you of the number of standard pages.

Do I have to pay VAT?

VAT is charged to legal and natural persons in Slovenia. Legal persons with an EU VAT number outside Slovenia do not have to pay VAT, but natural persons from abroad do.

When do I need an authentication by the Ministry of Justice?

Certain countries, such as USA or Russia, require additional authentication by the Ministry of Justice. You can find more information in Slovenian here.

What does apostille mean?

An apostille is a certification of the authenticity of the signature and seal on a document, verified by the competent authority of the country of origin.

What is the cost of delivering a sworn translation in Slovenia or abroad?

Delivery prices vary depending on the provider: Pošta Slovenije, Kurirček, PDP, DHL, TNT, UPS, etc. You can find the prices on each courier’s website.

When is a sworn translation classified as urgent?

If the number of standard pages exceeds 7 pages per business day.

For example, if a sworn translation is ordered on Friday afternoon and delivery is requested on Monday morning, we consider the translation as urgent and an extra charge is therefore applicable.

If you order a sworn translation in the afternoon on a weekday and need it delivered the next morning, we consider the translation as urgent.

How much extra do I pay for an urgent sworn translation?

The extra payment for urgent sworn translations is 50% of the usual price of the sworn translation.

What is a sworn translation?

A sworn translation is produced by a sworn court interpreter for the relevant language combination and has the same legal value as the original. The court interpreter puts a stamp on their translation and binds it together with the original and their declaration with a special three-colour string.

Who is a sworn court interpreter?

A sworn court interpreter is a professional appointed by the Ministry of Justice who is qualified to translate texts and is authorized to certify translations. This means that their translation is officially acknowledged and has equal legal force as the original document.

What if there is no court interpreter for a particular language available in Slovenia?

If there is no court interpreter in Slovenia for a particular language available, the text is first translated into English by a court interpreter and then translated from English into the target language by a court interpreter.

What is the difference between a court interpreter and a translator?

The court interpreter is sworn in by the Ministry of Justice and has official powers. A translator is any linguist with a degree in translation and/or relevant experience in translation.

Can you translate documentation into several languages?

What is the difference between certified translations and sworn translations?

Certified translation is a document translation with a formal declaration by the translator or the translation company certifying the accuracy and completeness of the translation.
